Sylvan Hungary celebrates 20th anniversary

Sylvan was the first of the international spawn suppliers in the Central & Eastern Europe region opening its sales office in Hungary in 1991 after the political changes of Central-Eastern Europe at the end of the eighties. Due to the sales activity in that period and with the aim of fulfilling the increasing needs of the region in the mid-nineties, the company decided to build the first spawn plant in Central-Eastern Europe, in Hungary.

The plant started test production in 1997 and has grown continuously since, supplying customers in the region: Hungary, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and other surrounding counties.

While the mushroom industry in the region changed with modern mushroom houses appearing the Sylvan spawn factory in Hungary remained consistent and continued to produce high-quality mushroom spawn.

In the last 20 years the factory produced tens of millions of liters of spawn to the satisfaction of Sylvan customers. Through the last 20 years, thousands of visitors attended workshops, meetings and tours with the Grower Support Team in the Hungary facility.

Due to the enormous growth in production in the region the Hungary facility is integral to Sylvan’s strategic growth plan. Increased production levels are expected to begin before the end of 2017. With the current expansion in place we are hopeful to reach the 100 million litres milestone for the plant within the next few years.
