512 produces a solid stipe and round, firm, medium sized mushroom. It produces relatively even flushes, thus spreading the harvesting period. 512 is a reliable, high yielding, flexible strain that can be grown under a range of conditions. The favourable characteristics of 512 are easy pinning, stems of the correct length for cutting and a tolerance of compost variability.  

512 & 520 are particularly suited to mechanical harvesting. They are tolerant of changing compost and growing conditions and give consistent production in terms of both weight and quality. These strains are easy to pin so mycelial growth must be controlled with a wet, heavy and coarse casing layer. To further control casing colonisation, casing with a controlled watering regime during case running must be used.
